UNESCO is organizing an International Seminar on the Evolution of the Right to Education to be held online December 7 and 8, 2021 (14:30 p.m. to 16:00 p.m. and 13:30 p.m. to 16:00 p.m. CET respectively), on the occasion of Human Rights Day, in order to promote a dialogue on the possible new dimensions of the right to education, so that this right is better applied in current and future contexts.

The International Seminar will bring together representatives of countries, internationally renowned experts, members of civil society and others, in order to engage in rich discussions on the need to develop this right in different aspects, whether they are conceptual, legal, political or technical, to respond to new and emerging needs and challenges, as well as their implications for ensuring quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. This will help to chart a roadmap for the evolving agenda.

The working languages ​​of the Opening session (December 7, 2021) of the seminar will be English, French and Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation in these languages.

During Technical sessions (December 8, 2021), the plenary will benefit from interpretation in English and French, while for parallel sessions, see below:

  2. Right to pre-primary learning (English)
  3. Right to digital learning (English)
  4. Right to education of vulnerable groups (French and English)
  5. Right to higher education (English)
  6. Education for human rights (English)

Please note that only the Opening Session (December 7, 2021) is open to the general public. The restitution of the Technical Sessions (December 8, 2021) will be recorded and shared in due course.
